The Word of the Lord is Not Hidden

11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.
12 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

Deuteronomy 30:11-14

The Commandment is NOT hidden!

God’s Word is not hidden from us. It is not hidden in some foreign language that we cannot understand. It is not concealed in the Greek and Hebrew, which only the learned understand. It is not afar off in some distant land. It is not buried in some cave in Israel, waiting to be “rediscovered.” It is not in some other land far over land and sea, that we must make pilgrimage to obtain it. It is not settled only in Heaven, readable only to us when we have left this world. But the Word is very nigh unto us, available to be placed into our minds and hearts and mouths. We have the very word of God, that we may live by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. The commandment is settled in Heaven, it is true, but there it is of little use to us. We live on earth, where Satan dwells as the prince of the power of the air.

But, as the Word saith:

… the truth of the Lord endureth forever. (Ps 117:2)
… His truth endureth to all generations. (Ps 100:5)

Endure (Standard College Dictionary)

  • Bear up under, stand firm against
  • To put up with / tolerate
  • To continue to be, last
  • To suffer without yielding; held out

If the Word of the Lord is settled only in Heaven; why then are we told that it endureth forever? There is nothing for it to endure in Heaven! There are no attempts against it by man and devil in Heaven! But there are adversaries on earth, as it is written: “…Thou shalt preserve them [Words] from this generation forever.” (Ps 12:7).

The Word of the Lord is not preserved only in Heaven or in some language we cannot understand. God’s Word is preserved for us, on earth, in our language, that we may live by “every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God”
