Sin

Sin is any and every thought, word, or action that breaks God’s commandments.  Everyone who has ever lived has sinned.  (Except for Jesus Christ.)   I have sinned, you have sinned, everyone has sinned.   And we have a problem, for the penalty for our sin is eternal death in Hell:  “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”   Romans 6:23

So what things are sin?   When Jesus Christ was on earth, He was asked, “What is the greatest commandment?”  He replied, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”  Matthew 22:37.

Have you been obeying this?    If not, then what does that make you?

The second greatest commandment is this: “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”   This means to treat others how you would want them to treat you.   Have you been doing this?

The Ten Commandments are:

 I.      I am the Lord thy God.   Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

II.      Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image… thou shalt not bow down to them, nor serve them.

III.      Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.

IV.      Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy (Do you regularly go to church?)

 V.      Honour thy father and thy mother

VI.      Thou shalt not kill.

VII.      Thou shalt not commit adultery.

VIII.      Thou shalt not steal.

IX.      Thou shalt not bear false witness.

X.      Thou shalt not covet.

Have you been keeping ALL of these?

These are a few of the major sins.  There are plenty more I could list.   The point is, you haven’t kept them all.  No one on earth is able to keep them all.   You are a sinner.   God hates sin.   He can’t stand it.   Your sin separates you from God.   He will not allow sin in His presence.   But the good news is that God loves you despite your sin.   How can God hate the sin yet love the sinner?  He knows that you will burn in Hell for your sins, but He does not want you to end up there.   He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die for you.   He died to take away your sins.   He suffered the punishment for your sins so you wouldn’t have to.   He died for you while you were still a sinner.

Christ died for the ungodly.   Romans 5:6

…while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.   Romans 5:8

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Romans 6:23.   Forgiveness of sins is a free gift from God, but you have to accept it in order to receive it.   If you would like to learn how to accept His gift, CLICK HERE
